This business profile presents and also outlines detailed information of and about Amatshatangubo as a musical business starting from its formation to date.

The entity has long history to share with South Africans as well other countries to which our music is or has previously been on their charts especially during the early years of 80’s and some maybe now. It will also tell about the achievements that the business has made so far, the albums recorded since its inception to date as well the awards it has won from and or awarded to from different art ceremonials.

BACKGROUND.

As established in 1987 at Kwaggafontein “B” under Thembisile Hani Local Municipality by Mr. Mona BhekifaMnguni who is the founder and also a group leader. At the time he had five members who joined him to form the group.

PREVIUOS EXPERIENCE AND ACHIEVEMENTS.

In April 1988, Amatshatangubo got invited to participate at the Cultural Festival which was organised by the then Radio Ndebele (now Ikwekwezi FM) andAmatshatangubo managed to obtain position three despite they were new in the race and they were awarded with certificatesubsequently. In the following year which is 1990 they got a recording deal with NB Records and on the 18th of June the same year they have then started with recording of their first album/project titled “Ingwe ne Ngwenyama” under the producer, Simon Ntshalintshali and the album sold 18000 copies that has made their name popular to the ears of their music company directors.

On the 16th of December of the very same year 1990, Amatshatangubo were put on the line up list of artists to share the stage in a bid to entertain the crowds together with other prominent bands at the music festival that was held at Ben Marie Resort, among others were the late Lucky Dube, the late Brenda Fasie and the Big Dudes, Sankomota, PJ Powers, Rebecca Malope, Soul Brothers and many others.

As they gain popularity, in 1991 they were scheduled to performing in more than ten events in the Mpumalanga and in New Castle in the KZN province. During 1997 thegroup was approached by a white guy from Limpopo who wanted the group to go to perform abroad as he said there was one song in the album that people of London and other neighbouring countries loved so much.

On the very same year they had another performance which was held at Vaalbank, themed, “KING BASKET FESTIVAL” which has earned the group to be awarded with a Best Performing Group Certificate.

Since the democratic government led by the African National Congress took over in 1994 through the very first Democratic Elections, the group has participated on many events and ceremonies of government stature around the country such as at the Freedom Day, Heritage and also in Rallies which were held during elections campaigns.

On the 27 August 2014 Amatshatangubo performed at Zithabiseni Holiday Resort Cultural Music Festival that was organised by Johan Sibiya Promotions. On the same year of 2014 Amatshatangubo entered the SATMA awards for the first time and got nominated in the four categories namely;

  • Best Poet
  • Best Male
  • Best IsiNdebele Album and,
  • Song of the year.

And during the final stage ofthe competition that was held in Cape Town at the University of Forthare, the group was announced as the winners of Best IsiNdebele Album for the year 2014 and accordingly so they were honoured with a SATMA Trophy. Amatshatangubo had been on TV screens performing mostly in the Cultural Programmes such as MoribowaAfrika(during late 80’s and 90’s), Ezodumo and now Roots. From 1987 to date Amatshatangubo have released 13 albums/projects under its original name and also under the same leading vocalist who is also founder, Mr. Mona BhekifaMnguni.

To see more of their performances you are advised to attend the King Silamba Day that is normally celebrated at Waalmansdal( Komjekejeke) in the North of City of Tshwane. The event takes place on the first weekend of March yearly.
